The Karka temperament
Movable water ruled by the Moon gives a temperament that is both tidal and mobile — feeling arrives in waves, and the person moves with them rather than against. A Karka Moon reads a room before it reads the agenda, and is usually right about the mood even when it cannot say why. The protectiveness is the sign's signature: a small circle, defended without much discussion, and a long memory for who was there during the bad year.
The difficulty is porousness. What other people are feeling comes in whether or not it was invited, and a Karka Moon can spend a whole day carrying someone else's weather. The classical remedy is not detachment but boundary — deciding deliberately whose day you are going to hold.
Ruled by Moon
The Moon rules Karka, so the waxing and waning fortnights matter to you more than to others. Shukla paksha, the bright half, generally lifts a Karka Moon; Krishna paksha, the dark half, asks for more rest. Monday belongs to the Moon and is your day in the traditional reckoning.
Jupiter reaches exaltation at five degrees of Karka, and Mars falls to debilitation at twenty-eight. The sign takes wisdom and generosity easily, and takes aggression badly — confrontation costs a Karka Moon far more energy than it costs the person on the other side of it.
The nakshatras inside Karka
Karka holds the last quarter of Punarvasu, all of Pushya, and all of Ashlesha. Pushya, ruled by Saturn with Brihaspati as its deity, is considered by many texts the most auspicious nakshatra of the twenty-seven — nourishing, dutiful, the birth star to begin things under, with the exception of marriage. Ashlesha, ruled by Mercury with the Nagas as its deity, is the opposite face of the sign: penetrating, private, capable of great subtlety and of holding something back for a very long time.
The contrast is worth knowing about yourself. A Pushya Moon and an Ashlesha Moon are both Karka, both protective, and they protect in almost opposite ways.
Which days lift Karka, and which test it
The best days for Karka are those where the transiting Moon reaches a supportive count from your rashi. They are good for family matters, for property and for anything to do with home — the areas Karka governs and handles better than anyone.
When the Moon sits in the fourth, eighth or twelfth from Karka, mood runs ahead of fact. It is not a day to interpret silence, and not a day to make a permanent decision about a relationship. Sleep early; the reading is usually different in the morning.
The whole scheme is Chandra Gochara: count from your own rashi to the rashi the Moon is in today, and the count decides the tone. This is the full table for Karka — the star rating above is built from it, adjusted for the paksha and for whether the weekday lord is friendly to Moon.

Karka with other rashis
Karka pairs traditionally well with the other water signs and with Vrishabha, and the Moon-Mars debilitation makes Vrischika and Mesha harder ground. Ashtakoota matching is still the honest test: eight factors, thirty-six points, computed from both birth stars rather than from the sign names.
The kundli matching page scores all eight kootas out of thirty-six from two birth dates, and flags the classical cancellations that a bare score hides.
