Rashi, not sun sign
A Vedic daily horoscope is read from the rashi — the sign the Moon occupied at your birth — and not from the Sun sign a Western column uses. The two disagree for about eleven people in twelve, so reading the familiar one here will usually give you the wrong page.
There is a second difference underneath that one. Vedic astrology uses the sidereal zodiac, measured against the fixed stars, while the Western tradition uses the tropical zodiac, measured from the equinox. The two have drifted about twenty-four degrees apart, which is why the sidereal Sun enters Mesha in mid-April rather than on 21 March. Every figure on this site uses the Lahiri (Chitrapaksha) ayanamsa, the value the Indian government adopted for the national calendar.
How the day is judged
The tone of each reading comes from Chandra Gochara: the count from your natal Moon to the rashi the Moon is transiting today. The classical rule treats the 1st, 3rd, 6th, 7th, 10th and 11th as benefic, the 2nd, 5th and 9th as mixed, and the 4th, 8th and 12th as testing. That placement sets the tone; the tithi and the weekday lord adjust the rating up or down by a quarter-star each, and each sign's page carries the full table for that rashi.
The wording within a tone is chosen by a fixed function of the date, so a given day always reads the same way — you can move backwards and forwards through the days and the reading for any date does not change between visits.
